    AP Calculus AB

    The AP Calculus AB exam is 3 hours 10 minutes long and split evenly: 42 multiple-choice questions worth 50% of your score, and 6 free-response problems worth the other 50%. A graphing calculator is required for Part B of the multiple choice and Part A of the free response, and banned in the other two parts. The course itself is 8 units, from limits and continuity through applications of integration.

    AP Calculus AB questions students ask

    3 hours and 10 minutes in total — 1 hour 40 minutes for the 42 multiple-choice questions and 1 hour 30 minutes for the 6 free-response problems.

    Only on two of the four parts. A graphing calculator is required for Section I Part B and Section II Part A, and is not permitted for Section I Part A or Section II Part B. Practising both ways matters: the no-calculator parts are worth 68.3% of the exam.

    AB covers less ground — BC adds series, parametric and polar work on top of the AB content — but the questions on shared topics are pitched at the same level. AB is a full year on the same material BC moves through faster.
